Behind the Hat: Wei's First Branded Cap Launch

As Black Friday approaches, we’re thrilled to introduce Wei’s first-ever branded hat! Here’s a peek into what brought this exclusive piece to life.

Crafting the Vision

Timeless and universally loved, baseball hats have transcended trends, proving their place as versatile essentials that blend style, comfort, and identity—perfect for creating a distinctive in-house brand statement. We chose to design and launch a hat as it’s the perfect accessory embodying our fashion pillars of Western, Work, and Casual—a piece that can be worn in nearly every day-to-day scenario.

First, to start with the vision for the piece, it started with inspiration from our current baseball hat collection, including some of our top-selling brands like Hooey and Kimes Ranch. These hats use high-quality polyester and spandex, which provides the hat a durable, breathable feel. We wanted something versatile, rugged, and stylish, and the trucker style with a snapback closure was an immediate fit. The snapback provides the universal sizing option and the mesh allows for wear in the summer heat.  For colours, we chose classic black and white – the colours of our online storefront, but also neutral shades that go with everything and suit any Western wardrobe.

Our Story in the Design

When we sat down with Chung, one of our owners, we knew we wanted the hat to carry our story. “1956” was a key detail he suggested – the year Wei’s was founded and that signifies our beginnings and the foundation of Wei’s Western Wear. The simple “1956” speaks for itself on the left temple of the hat. 

For the front logo, we went through multiple iterations to get it right. We settled on a bold, 3D embroidered logo on the front with the “WEI’S” logo across the front panel. This larger, more striking logo, will sit well with Wei’s fans, but also has significant appeal as it reflects the confidence and style we strive to offer our customers.

Refining the Details

We went through multiple iterations of the hat, from re-designing the logo size, perfecting the hat material, and modifying the placement of the logos. Multiple of our store staff wore hat samples for days to ensure the comfort and fit were also perfect. The materials selected are breathable and quick-dry, keeping the wearer cool and stylish even on long days. After the samples were critiqued, we sent them for improvements and modifications until you get the finalized version. These changes made all the difference, giving the hat a bold presence that mirrors the Wei’s spirit.

After final adjustments, we’re excited to have the hat ready for our Black Friday launch. We’re offering it as an exclusive gift to our first 100 online customers with a $100 minimum purchase.
